Isla Grande belongs to Panama. Contrary to its name it’s a small island. There’s a well known statue of a black Christ standing on coral reef which mark the entrance between the island and the mainland for those arriving by the sea.
Many lanchas linked the mainland, where buses give lifts all day long to Portobello, Colon or Panama city at low coast. The East corner of the island is one of Panama’s favorite surf spots and many competitions take place here. That’s also nice to walk up to the lighthouse at the top of the hill, there’s a spectacular view.
Recently, investigations have specified that’s Bastimiento, discovered by Columb and Bastidas between 1502 and 1503.
